Best Tips For Spring Cleaning And Clearing Away
It’s officially springtime; time to get not just your dirty laundry out into open air, but all those non-laundry items you’ve been waiting all year to spring clean. I’ve put together some fabulous tips to set you on your way. So go boldly and get that Spring cleaning/clear away done!
~Get rid of dirty marks on white bags, shoes, belts and other accessories by rubbing them with cotton wool dipped in nail varnish.
~You’ll no doubt, be storing jackets and winter coats in your cupboard at this time of year. A cheap way of keeping the moths at bay is to store a couple of conkers in the pockets of the garment in question. Make sure you dry clean or wash the coat/jacket before storing. It’s better to store each garment in individual plastic cases. Place a couple of conkers in a small laundry bag (a small bag with holes in it) and put this on the hanger. Moths are repelled by the smell of conkers even though we can’t smell them.
~This is a great time of year to have a clear out. If you didn’t wear something all autumn/winter last season, face it, you’re not going to next winter either. Charity shops are waiting for your donation. Your wardrobe (and less crumpled clothes) will thank you for it.
~Jackets should be hung on padded hangers. Sweaters, folded and put away. Hanging knitted sweaters on hangers for long periods may make them stretch lengthwise, causing a distortion in the style and look when you put them on again. All sweaters should be dried flat, not hanging from a line.
~Fluff and unsightly pet hairs should be removed from all winter clothes before you put them away. Wrap sticky tape to your hands, inside out. Pat firmly over the garment until fluff is all gone.
~Make sure you wash all your white bedding and winter blankets separate from the coloured ones. Never wash them on very high temperatures either. This is the secret to keeping whites white. Avoid spending lots of money to restore white clothes and linen.
~To avoid your underwired bras losing their shape, hand wash from the start of their lives. If you don’t mind having to replace them often, or having them dig into your ribs, then it’s okay to stick them in the washing machine.
~Do you have trouble with sweat marks? Apply a bit of vodka on the spot before you place garment in the wash.
