Happiness, as we know, is a state of mind - independent of external circumstances. Happiness never 'happens' to us. It's an active acquisition. Is your happiness dwindling? There are a few things we can do today to top it right back up to the brim.

Shift your perception. At the end of today, write down four things that went well. This enables you to develop a positive attitude. It will relieve your stress and give you a more thankful outlook in life. Therapists who let depressed patients focus on the positives in life have noted more success than those who ask patients to return to the bad things that happened to them. Let this be your daily exercise, and you will find your optimism seeping into your life once more.

Strengthen your relationships. Show people who're kind to you that you appreciate them. Today, write a short note, send an email, call up a friend (or any other way you choose to communicate) and say thank you for something they've done for you in the past. Think of one person, one act of kindness, then out of the blue say, 'thank you'. They took the time, of their own free will, to be a blessing to you. Make their day and yours.

People who're grateful not only get more in return, but they build up solid friendships and relationships because they're not too proud to say thank you. Showing gratitude is also giving back something - albeit small. Giving, not taking, is the path to true happiness.

One of the best ways to put a smile in your heart when you're down is to do something good for a random stranger. This selfless act is truly miraculous! Try it today. If you're busy looking for ways to be kind you'll be hard-pressed to find time to mope about your troubles. Try to find one way of being kind to someone else daily. You'll see your happiness pressure continually rise.

Don't ever allow the hardships of life to quench your ability to love. Love may be the most important thing on earth. If you can't love you've died already. Life is only worth living if you've got someone you're prepared to die for. Love, love, love. And show your loved ones you love them. They'll love you back. Keep this precious gem (of thought and feeling) in your heart. Let this bring you happiness today. God loves us all. Why should we be sad.

Fantastic tips to keep happiness in sight! Sometimes, counting small blessing is best for me to stay focus on what I have at hands.

Wonderful tips. My SO actually does the count of blessings everyday. He is good at staying focus and happy. I believe you are right on with happiness.
