Facebook Friends Are 'Real' People?

A ‘friend’ has become such a generic name for people with whom we spend our time. These days we’ve filled our lives with so much time-wasting junk, that too many people have more time for their online ‘friends’ than they do for the real ones they can touch.

I often wonder how we would react if we were stuck in a room with the people we hang out with on Facebook or Twitter. Would we want to stay and chat or would we race out to make fresh online friends whose voices we’ve never heard, whose hands we’ve never seen.

Is the Internet responsible for this shift, or are we so involved in our own lives, we can’t be bothered to share real things with real people.

And what about the things we do share with real people? Are they too superficial, or have we managed to maintain genuine bonds with the people whose lives we’re meant to enrich? In this article I explore a few different types of friendships based on the ‘real’ people we know. In which division do you fall? Are you the Judas type, in it for what you can get? The Peter type, the life of the group when the going is good? Are you somewhere in between, or do you dare to be the Jesus type, strong and dependable?

Relationships Not Built to Last

Breaking up is such a thorny thing to embrace, and it seems as though women take it so much harder than men. We don’t seem to be able to find the same iron-will to overcome the hurt as men do. Instead, we fall down around our feet with a certain desperation that cries, ‘Life is over now that I’ve loved and lost.’ I know because I’ve done it too.

In one of my older articles entitled 10 Sure Ways To Get Over Him, the common trend through more than two hundred comments, seems to be about a total collapse over relationships that could have been. In some cases, women (all anonymous, of course) wrote to me concerned that the unfulfilling relationship – which has been on the rocks for ages – has suddenly ended.

Not all relationships are made to last. Some of them run their courses well, while others hiccough along the way, struggling to make it to the predestined finishing line. Regardless of which one we’ve been handed, the finish line is the likely end to a race which was run with the sole intention of just that – ending.

Enjoy your relationships, but when they come to a natural end, recognise this and will yourself to move on. It’s difficult, I know. But if we purpose to strive forward with our lives, the steps we take after a break up will lead towards healing – obviously! On the other hand, if we keep thinking about ‘what could’ve been’ with a relationship we knew was littered with bruises, we’ll fall into a deep, dark pit of continuous hurt. It’s up to us, really.

The Moon Gets Shot!

I don’t normally write about this kind of thing on this relationship blog, but I’ve just updated the other two, and frankly, I need to rage.

You would think that our leaders would have enough work on their plates at this time. What, with our servicemen being marched out to Afghanistan to be shot at, the steady rise of HIV in Africa, pollution killing our Earth slowly, and the current credit crunch eating in to our limited resources.


This doesn’t seem to be the case at all because now we’ve gone and shot the moon.


Shoot the moon?
Why?
Yes, I know what they said about water and rocket fuel and all that jive.


Yes, like little boys and girls, we took the moon in one hand and a NASA space shuttle in the other. We crashed them together and filmed (or at least try to. I can't find a working video of the impact anywhere) the collision live. Then, we invited all our friends to the party to see the fantastic show.


Only thing is, we didn't get the nice, big ‘boom’ we expected. 'Tis a shame, really.  After the show, we dusted off the debris with the tips of our fingers just to see if any water was juiced out of the bang.
We spent  millions doing this. This was in addition to the trillions we spent on the Iraq war, a lot of which we can't account for.


But never mind this, at least we could claim that we’re spending money for a good reason this time. After all, a film of an unwarranted assault on the moon is not something you see every day, right?


Don't worry, we ain't doing nothin' wrong. Nature blasts the moon every day with big, huge rocks and such.

Signs Your Relationship is About to Fall Apart

People live together for many years after the spark of love has fizzled out of their relationship. We ask ourselves why, and many times we determine we would never allow the same thing happen to us. But would we notice it happening?

There are many reasons people hang on to a faltering marriage. A lot of times this determination to ‘stick it out’ stems from the need to keep their family together at all costs. In many of these cases, the spouses themselves have had broken homes as children and would rather live in misery than let the same thing happen to their kids.

It’s not always possible to prevent this crumbling. If the other party refuses to see life from your perspective, that’s a brick wall that can never conquered. Sometimes the best we can do while we wait for the fall, is to prepare the cushions to prevent bones being broken.
