Best Halloween Music For Your List

A countdown of the best Halloween songs collected from the top of everyone’s lists. Includes You Tube videos, MP3 download links and lyrics (in part).

Halloween is mostly a time for pretending you’re not home when kids come a'callin', but that’s another article. While you’re preparing the sweets for the little monsters and you’re elbow deep in pumpkin plop, why not download the following songs to make your Halloween special this year. According to all the best of the best lists, these are the definitive songs Halloween supporters have voted to the top of their play lists!

'Highway to Hell' by AC/DC

Frankly, this is an awesome song, but I can't see why this is a popular Halloween track. There's certainly nothing scary about it even though the repetitive lyrics make sure you know they are on their way to hell. The following lines may be the scariest of the entire song, and you will agree, they're not that creepy after all. But man, the rhythm is fantastic!

Nobody's gonna mess me 'round
Hey Satan, Paid my dues, Playin' in a rockin' band
Hey momma, Look at me, I'm on my way to the Promised Land.

'Black Magic Woman' by Fleetwood Mac

For me this track is more of a love song than a Halloween one. This guy is totally taken by the woman. He's so much in love, that nothing else matters. The guitar and vocals are totally wicked and the only things scary about this record is how it gets you moving even if you resolve not to. 'They don't make them like this no more.'

Yes, you got your spell on me baby, You're turning my heart into stone
I need you so bad, magic woman, I can't leave you alone

'Love Potion Number Nine' by the Searchers

This song itself is a love potion. This is a sweet, sweet track. The vocals are clear and magical. Not really a scary song by any standards, but I think we're getting warm where Halloween chilliness is concerned.

She looked at my palm and she made a magic sign
She said "What you need is Love Potion Number Nine

'I Put a Spell On You' by Nina Simone

In my opinion, there is no chill to this track. Okay, so Marilyn Manson did a version to it, and frankly he's the most blood-curdling thing about this song or the lyrics. Regardless of this, I think it's just the spell part of the title that secured this record on Halloween's best lists.

'Ghost busters' by Ray Parker Jr.

Ah, now we're getting somewhere! There's an introduction to the scary aspect of Halloween in this song. It's survived generations and even though it may not be the best ever arrangement, it's totally catchy. If you've heard it once, you're hooked. Who doesn't know these famous first lines?

If there's something strange in your neighbourhood
Who you're gonna call? Ghost busters!

Monster Mash by Bobby 'Boris' Pickett

We're getting terribly hot here as we get near the bottom of the countdown. Boy, the Monster Mash must be the only Halloween song to which everyone knows the dance routine. And... we all know the lyrics, so there's no need to put any of it here. Considering this was never even a regular pop song, it's done pretty well though out the years.

This You Tube video is an evil compilation. You'll love it! You've got to watch this.

'Thriller' by Michael Jackson

You knew this was coming. I bet you could guess this would be number one. This, and no other song, was made for Halloween. Everything is right: the video, the outfits, the vocals and the music. The track is perfectly arranged and the creaky door and bad lighting is Halloween itself.

It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
You're paralyzed.
